Nubia was an ancient region in northeastern Africa, primarily located along the Nile River valley, extending from southern Egypt to northern Sudan. It was home to several significant empires, the most notable being the Kingdom of Kush, which famously conquered Egypt during the eighth century BC under the rule of Piye. The name "Nubia" itself became common during the Roman period, with some links to the ancient Egyptian word for gold.
