I am working with AI to bring Shakespeare's words to life – enlisting technologies to help paint pictures with his words. Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet was probably first performed at the Curtain Theatre in Shoreditch around 1597. And in this series I wondered why AI insisted our contemporary Juliet wear a blonde bubble wig. Then I remembered Baz Luhmann's 1996 version of the play; with Mercutio played as a black transvestite complete with just such a wig. Working collectively, AI, Shakespeare, and I can access cultural references that span centuries.
